Hiii everyone!

It’s a few days to the new year, and I can’t believe how fast this year just went. It was like this year was in a hurry and it couldn’t wait to just go, I still remember vividly how February this year was like. Many of us would have started prepping ourselves for this year, listing things we plan to start and stop doing. I’m not really into the new year resolution thing, I’m not against it either, I’m just used to starting and not lasting up to a month sef.

I read a thread on Twitter recently, I loved what the babe wrote and I decided to share. The gist was about putting a lot of pressure on your salary, I learnt a lot and it will be bad if I don’t come to tell you about it???. I’ll be dividing the gist into three parts, so let’s get right to it to learn a thing or two!

  • Don’t pressure your salary: This will definitely not be the first time you’ll be hearing this, but have you tried it? The salaries are under a lot of pressure, you need to help them. The things that require spending of money a lot are the things that appear cheap and not too important, and they include eating, data, transport, electricity, clothes, that’s to mention a few.

Removing money for all these things from your salary will pressure your salary a lot, and you’ll be ending up with almost nothing at the end of the month. If you have a side hustle that brings in cash, no matter how little it is will go a long way. Even if it is feeding alone it covers, please start or hold on to that job.

There are a lot of things you can do, you just have to think and take the bold step. You can decide to sell something, teach something, write for someone, do podcasts, create content, take up a weekend job, become a delivery person, fix things. It might be a little difficult at the beginning, but you’ll be glad you did.

  • Use budgets: I thought budgets were just for businesses, it’s just recently my eyes got opened to using budgets. Budget is an estimate of income and expenditure for a set period of time, maybe a week, a month, or a year. You can even have a budget for a day.

When you start having and using budgets for your income and expenses, you’ll find out how much money you have been wasting and how much you could have been saving. This our economy might seem not to encourage having budgets, it’s part of the scam, you need a budget! If you have been doing it before, please keep we that are just starting in prayers, so we’ll be like you too.

  • Live within your means: I don’t know if this is a Lagos thing, a Nigeria thing, or an African thing. It’s very hard for us to live within our means, as in eh, it’s really hard. This is why a budget is needed, when you are looking at the money coming in and going out, nobody will tell you to adjust.

Some things are not just necessary, for now. In a while, you’ll have more than enough to go round for those things you are stressing yourself for, just to show off. Who are you competing with? Like I’ll always say, this life is not that hard at all. Anytime that spirit of showing off to live outside your means, just look at your budget, the sense will just fall on you from nowhere.

2018 will be the year of growing and glowing, let’s just work towards it and be fully prepared for the growth and glow???. I hope you learnt a thing or two, don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comment section. Thanks guys!

Absolutely true. We always always live outside our means and I’m so guilty of this ? But we are learning
