“Ibrahim, how far? Chairman don come?” That is me whispering to the gateman, one of my various partners in crime at work. No matter how much I try, I am always 30mins late, that is at the very least sef. Maybe I am just not cut out for the 9-5 kind of life.
It’s like I don’t know how it’s doing me, who will be studying engineering and be saying she is not cut out for this kind of life? It can only be lazy me, who will refuse to leave the bed until it is past 7am, and start rushing to meet up for resumption time, which cannot be possible, even if angels assisted me.
“Aunty, make you just stay outside o, Chairman dey front of building, he dey vex well well.” Ibrahim replied me quietly.
I passed my bag to Ibrahim as usual, to help me keep it under his desk, so I don’t appear to be just coming. I know Ibrahim will signal for me to come in when the coast is clear, so I can walk in casually, and come back for my bag during lunch time.
It is not like I will be sorely missed at the office, I am just an IT student, all I do is entertain them with my jokes, help in smuggling food in during work hours, be on the lookout for them when they are being rebellious, and sometimes assist them in their respective duties, which is very minimal.
My name is Yimika, I am 21years, I am a student of Ekiti State University, studying Computer Engineering. I am presently doing my Industrial Training, which is supposed to last for six months. The industrial Training is supposed to let us know what we will up against when we graduate, and I don’t think I am ready for this kind of life in 10years to come.
I wouldn’t say I am beautiful or not, because my beauty is seasonal. I can be very fine today, even me will be feeling myself, and by tomorrow, my eyes will just appear bigger, my mouth wider, everything will just sha be anyhow.
“Aunty, you fit go inside now, but waka fast o, make Chairman no go catch you, he just sack that sister wey dey always follow Oga Peter everywhere.” Ibrahim is my major source of gossip in this office, and the way he describes people is just too hilarious.
“She dey press phone, dey laugh, she no know say Chairman dey her back dey look am. As she just turn see Chairman, she just start to dey pack her load herself, because Chairman don catch am before and na people beg for am that time.” I was just nodding my head as Ibrahim continued the gist. I was trying to think of something I will tell my supervisor, that man can get angry anyhow.
“Ibro Ibro, you wey dey here with me throughout, how you see all these things wey you talk.” I queried.
“Aunty, na Dupe come yarn me now now.” Ibrahim replied, defending himself.
“Okay, na una wahala be that. I don go o” I replied Ibrahim as I walked to my department. It is already few mins to 10, I know I deserve all the insults I will get from my supervisor today.
Luckily for me, me being the child of the most high, the favoured one, my Supervisor has gone to the site, so there is nobody to question my lateness. Actually, there are people, but they do not mind. Since the wicked one is not around, all I have to do on an early productive Monday is to watch YouTube videos and waste away my life.
After a while, I decided to call the love of my life, just thinking about him makes me blush. My babe is so sweet, please do not give me the side eye. We have been dating for over a year, so I am certain the initial gra gra part is over. Well, a little certain, but the way he loves me and looks out for me, even when I don’t deserve it, leaves nothing to not be certain about.
My babe is 23years, we met when he came to my school two years ago. We stayed friends for about a year, before we decided to give this dating thing a try. That decision was and is still is a good one, tho he can be so annoying, I wouldn’t want someone else to annoy me. That sounded too cheesy, even to me. Forget I even said that.
The voice I heard from the other side of the phone jolted me from dreamland. Why is a lady picking up his phone? And why is the voice so polished and straight to the point? Didn’t the person see babe with three love emojis on the screen? Who has the right to pick up his calls? Nobody ever picks up his call.
Find out who is on the other end of the phone in the next episode here.
